Dueling Pianos Featuring Stephen Clark Johnson and Newt Johnson
Above:  Stephen Clark Johnson and Newt Johnson duke it out on the stage.  The audience is supplied with a list of songs and can make song requests that bend genres and blend music of one song to words from another.  It’s part concert, part comedy act and part game show rolled into one. Claire Johnson (off camera, right) acts as an emcee and keeps the night moving and fun.

The colorful wheel to the left is part of the "genre twist" game, where audience teams spin to select a genre. Since Stephen likes Disco and Latin least of all, we recommend you target those genres. Then, watch Stephen squirm!!!

parkerParker's Take

Sometimes one just wants "different". If you’re in the mood for live music and fun, check out "Dueling Pianos" at the Kiln. It’s different, and it’s a blast.
Stephen Clark Johnson and Newt Johnson take on audience challenges to ‘mash’ songs and twist genres. A song mash occurs when the lyrics of one song are sung to the music of another song. When Stephen & Newt twist genres, a song originally made famous in genre #1 (e.g. Country), is performed in an audience selected genre, e.g. Jazz.  Would Johnny Cash be upset to hear Folsom Prison Blues played with a jazz swing? We like to think he might join Johnson & Johnson on stage!
Stephen leads on vocals and Newt Johnson provides excellent backing, while both blend their keyboard skills to create an entertaining sound. We previously wrote our observations of Stephen’s vocal charisma. We promise you will not be disappointed.
Serious music audience members need not worry - there may be lots of humor at a Dueling Piano session, but there is also plenty of well-played music and friendly competition.
Performers take turns playing a song related to the theme of the night, which range from songs of a certain decade, to different genres, Disney, Movie/TV themes, etc. They announce the theme each week on their Dueling Piano Facebook page. Teams must name the song title, then Claire (emcee) uses a projector to flash music trivia questions on a screen. She tallies points each round as teams compete to win prizes at halftime and the end of the night.
All-in-all, Dueling Pianos at the Kiln is a show to watch (and participate in) when you want to laugh with friends.
Bring your own music challenges for Stephen and Newt. Will they be up to the task? Will they succeed or fail at each song challenge?  No matter! Even the rare failures are fun. The musicians laugh as much as the audience. Enjoy!
