A.M. Booth's Lumberyard is a re-purposed facility with lots of charm. It’s big. Very big. There’s a room that is primarily a bar (where the music is) but you can order meals that are prepared in their gourmet restaurant. A big plus over standard bar food fare. The restaurant is located in the same building. There’s also a court yard which will take you back to the 19th and early 20th century with its classic look and authentic antiques. Did I mention the court yard had a train car on display? Music can be in the Kiln itself, or outside or in the 'veranda'.
Music veteran Dave Anderson had the stage when we arrived. The stage itself is raised  3-4 feet and the stage backdrop consists of a GIANT door and large windows.  Through the windows one can see lighted sepia-toned photos showing a perspective downtown Huntsville in the early turn 20th century.
Back to the giant door. It is so large that it made Dave appear to be on the set from some sci-fi movie. You know, the one where the hero is growing small and at some point "disappears".  The whole effect reminds me of a theater stage and it is kind of cool.
Annabelle and I decided to order a couple of appetizers with our beers. I am no food critic, but I have to say two things caught my attention.  First, the prices were good. Our two appetizers totaled around $11.  Second, and this is the part that blew me away, the food looked and tasted like it had come from some gourmet restaurant instead of a standard bar kitchen.
I knew no one would believe me so I took a photo. The food looks good in the photo – someone with skill put those dishes together. And it tasted even better.  No exaggeration. Really good.
I can’t say everything they make is this good. I have not tried everything. But as for the two appetizers we had, they were far and away among the best “bar food” I have ever had. Maybe next time I’ll order the salmon. Like I said, not your typical bar grub!
One acoustic comment about the music. Annabelle and I sat about 20 feet away from the stage, in one of the side tables.  Annabelle visited the bar during one of Dave’s songs and she came back excited about how the music was so much better balanced in the center of the room.  She could hear the vocals so much better. Next time we go to A.M. Booth’s Lumberyard, we plan on sitting at the bar or one of the tables well away from the stage to see and verify.
Finally, I wanted to mention that they offer music sometimes in the outer courtyard, and we look forward to experiencing that as well.
