Madison Arts Council - Summer Concert Series
Above: The Rocket City Sweethearts entertain families and friends, young and young at heart at the Madison Gazebo. It's part of the Madison Arts Council summer concert series. At this particular event, there was free pizza and games for the kids. A juggler taught one interested young lady how to toss. Very, very family friendly. Note the shade that covered the audience at the start of the concert to cool things down.  Nicely thought out.

Parker's Take:

Relax. Talk. Watch kids play. Enjoy live music. Gaze at the beauty of nearby historic homes, and pay homage to history.
It’s all part of the Madison Arts Council Summer Concert Series.  All you need is a lawn chair or blanket to relax on the well-groomed grass.
During our visit we were treated to the Rocket City Sweethearts, a retro-group of three women who perform songs from the 50’s and early 60’s with amazing three part harmonies. To add to the nostalgia, they dress in vintage clothing.
This is an historic area where you will find well preserved homes, the kind that have name-signs proudly conveying their original owners' names and dates.  Annabelle decided we would walk the street to take in some of that history.
It’s also a site of the regretful Trail of Tears, as well as the largest Madison County Civil War battle in terms of number of soldiers participating. Both harken to our darker past, but are essential reminders for adults, and excellent conversation starters for teaching children.
A train track runs feet away from the park area and is well fenced for protection. The Rocket City Sweethearts took a pause as trains passed, each giving a brief toot to say “hello Madison” before getting back to business for an upcoming road crossing. No one seemed to mind and the concert resumed immediately after.
We stayed for the entire concert and had a great time listening to music side-by-side with so many friendly people. The setting was perfect and the Rocket City Sweethearts were a sweet treat for this the first concert of the 2017 Madison Arts Council Summer Concert series.
