About the Blues Mercenaries:

The Blues Mercenaries are a three piece blues band that hosts the Sunday Night Blues Jam at Lone Goose Saloon. The have been performing for 16 years. The current lineup is guitarist Freddy Faust, drummer James Irvin and bassist Matt Ross
The history, from Freddy Faust in his own words:
I started playing out mid 80s when everyone had big hair and wore spandex. Not for me. I grew up on Curtis Mayfield, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Marino, The Isley Bros., Sly and the Family Stone, Cream, and Robin Trower. First gig was at the Tip Top cafe with a 5 piece cover band. We were opening up for the Dusters out of Nashville. Holy smokes, they kicked butt!. That's when I fell in love with the 3 piece blues band.
I know it's cliche, but Stevie Ray was a big influence on me, because he brought back the music I was looking for. When I discovered the The Kaffeeklatsch Bar and the Sunday Night blues jam, I had found my home. I would volunteer to play bass because every one else would want to play guitar. Ardie Dean was hosting when I started. He hired me as a rhythm guitar and or bassist. About a year later, the management asked If I would be interested in hosting. I said yes, and the rest is history.
I met James Irvin, at a gig with the " Lonesome Kings" about 16 years ago. At the end of the first set, I asked him if he needed a job.  He started, as a Mercenary, the following Sunday and has stuck with me since. There was about a year that he was away. During that time we had the late Joe Harbin (r.i.p.) and Jim Kolachek on Drums. If the world had more of James' Professionalism, when it comes to trade craft,.. we'd all be better off.
Our bassist when we started was Greg Rowell.
Nick Waldrup hired on as our bassist after Greg left. Nick would do 4 shows with 2 bands, Friday and Saturday, and sometimes Sunday, in Memphis and then drive to Huntsville to play bass with us. We used to say "Nick knows every song ever written and the ones not written yet". Nick was a band leader of sorts too. He could whip a drummer into shape like no one else. Nick retired 2 years ago due to health reasons.
Matt Ross joined us 2 years ago, and he is the bassists, bassist.
He is a true professional, and a treat to play with.
