Parker's Take:

SideTracks Music Hall is exactly what Huntsville needs. Why? There are many excellent local venues promoting live music in support of their primary business (e.g., food and/or drink). Sidetracks Music Hall takes a different tack. Their business is live music, while their bar and restaurant play supporting roles. SideTracks opened their doors in March 2017.

The result is a focus on all things music. There's also other music events such as “Turntable Thursdays” where patrons can bring their favorite vinyl for all to hear. And at least for the current month, not a single night of Karaoke. (Thanks!)

SideTracks is located in the old LeeAnn’s Restaurant space, rebuilt into a first class music listening area. Inside there’s a large raised stage and plenty of floor space and tables.  On the night of our visit we enjoyed the music of Brian Ashley Jones, a 3 piece trio. The music was clear with a rock solid bottom end and Brian’s vocals projected above the music.  The acoustic drop-in ceiling (painted black) likely reduced unwanted echoes. Adding to the music atmosphere were stage lighting and smoke.  Like I said, music is SideTracks’ business.

THE OUTDOOR PATIO

The outdoor patio area is basically unchanged from the LeeAnn days, probably for good reason – it was already done right for live music. Although long and narrow, the corner enclosed stage acts as a reamplifier pushing the music out into the audience. There’s also room to dance, tables and an outside bar.

FOOD

Annabelle and I were duty bound to sample a couple of dishes. On special were fish and chips ($8) and fried pickles, one of our fav appetizers.  Very good. Annabelle, a gourmet cook in her own right, commented that the cod was fresh, moist and juicy.  The french fries were of the shoe string variety and crispy.  Between the two of us, the fries and pickles did not last very long!

Their menu also listed “adult milk shakes”, maybe next time…

A MIX OF LOCAL TALENT AND VISITING PERFORMERS

Some of the more well-known bands at SideTracks result in cover charges of $15-$25. The cover charge for the Brian Ashley Trio was $5 but due to a last minute addition of the well-known Confederate Railroad band, the charge was $20 to stay and see them.  We had to leave (puppy duties) before the Confederate Railroad played, but the music of Brian Ashley Jones was top-flight and extremely enjoyable.

NOW, THE DOWNSIDE...

If there is one downside to SideTracks Music Hall, it’s the parking situation. SideTracks is situated in a small strip mall at the end, and owing to its popularity, the narrow parking area (which opens to a larger parking area), finding a space is frustrating if you come on-time. So, come early and sip on your favorite beverage.

Our hats-off to SideTracks – and welcome to Huntsville – The Rock’en City.
